So, that elusive Triforce. That thing you touch in the Oracle Series and Link to the Past. That which you acquire in Wind Waker and the original series. That which so many people try to trick you into finding in Ocarina of Time. It is something that many covet after. So I'm going to build one.
Thursday July 24th
All of the main pieces are cut and the main base pieces need to be sanded
down. After that is done, I will be switching to working on layout and
figure out the cuts needed in the side pieces, which will hopefully be
minimal if possible.
Monday July 21st
Today I cut the remaining two golden triangles. The process went a lot
faster, but none of the pieces came out as clean as I would have liked them
to. I think the thickness really had something to do with it. Ah well.
On the flip side, I cut the first of the main case pieces, it came out
pretty well. In this case I erred on the side of having to sand it down a
good bit, but it meant that none of it broke off or anything of the ilk.
I'll hopefully pick up some sandpaper tomorrow and cut that last piece ere
long.
Wednesday July 16th
Today I cut the first of the three thinner golden triangles. During this I
have already started to get a sense for some of the challenges I have ahead
of me. It didn't come out flawless, but I'm happy with it. I'll try and get
some pics of it up later. As a symbolic measure, I'm calling this triangle
courage. Because it was the first piece I cut, and it certainly required a
lot of courage on my part to try thigns and do things which are somewhat
risky.
Monday July 14th
I have recieved a power drill in the mail for my purposes. With this drill I
shall pierce unto the heavens.
Friday July 11th
This is a picture dump of recent things. Also, I may try to add some CSS to
this thing to make it a bit more appealing ot the average viewer.
The Parts:
The Motherboard. It has the Intel Atom processor. I'm curious as to seeing this guy in action. It also has parallel and serial ports. Sometimes people forget that those exist and can be useful.
I started going through the Plexiglass and labelling the various pieces. If it wasn't obvious, there is a cover on the plexi. I figuredI might as well use that to my advantage and thus have been doing all the measurements and markings on that for now.
These next two, mark the beginnings of me having plotted out the cuts I need to make on the plexi.
The cutting shall commence soon, or so I hope.
Friday July 11th
Everything for the most part has come in the mail. I've made a few mistakes
regarding my plexiglas order. More so, I just didn't order enough of a few
certain pieces as I was doing a little math that was off by a factor of two.
Of course, this is easily rectifiable, so not much of an issue. I did the
most basic motherboard assembly, in this case, all that required was putting
ram into the appropriate slot. I also have measured out and drawn all the
lines and the ilk on the plexi to cut at. I just need to find a good time
that won't piss off my roommates, as a skill saw isn't exactly the softest
thing in existence (nor the loudest). I should have a picture dump up
soonish.
Thursday July 3rd
The first wave of goods has successfully arrived. All of the computer parts
have arrived. Ere long the plastics and a little later into next week a
power drill. Things are on track.
Friday June 27th
The transports are away!
So all I have to do now is stay on target. Things are ordered from Newegg.
Plastics have been ordered for the case. A power drill and bits are being
shipped out towards me also. I plan on stopping by Home Deopt / ACE hardware
and picking up some clamps, L-brackets, and a hacksaw or some other hand saw
good for plastics.
Tuesday June 24th
This has not been updated for a short while; however I've slowly been making
progress. I've started to figure out more of the things that will be
necessary for this to be successful. For example, I've figured out where I'm
getting a power drill from. I still have to buy a saw, clamps, and bits.
I also figured out how to mount the hard drives and disc drives to the
plexiglass via devices which are meant to adapt a 3.5" drive to fit in a
5.25" space. Really, what I need to do now is start doing more planning
drawings. Figure out L bracket placement for connecting the various shell
components. I also have to determine the exact thickness of the plexiglass
to use. Also, while it is not as good for me, I think I'm going to end up
cutting it myself. While it may therefore look not as good, it gives me a
bit more of the experience on working with it.
Monday June 16th
There was a good amount of progress made. I have a parts list I'm relatively
happy with and more importantly it fits together! During down time at work,
I did a lot of trig.
After this, I did a model to scale. I'm pretty happy that everything is fitting together. You can see it below. These are all front views by the way.
Now that I have done a scaled drawing and have everything roughly fitting (I need to juggle around where the fans are), I'm going to start figuring out the actual materials for the case.
Monday June 16th
I finalized the parts list and begun trying to start the layout process.
Decidingly trickier than meets the eye. I probably have done more trig
lately than in many a year. All in the name of arranging this thing. Well,
time to start producing scaled drawings and a few other things.
